HIED-810 Planning and Resource Management

                                     Course Reflection

I think the most challenging aspects of the assignment were the planning process, strategic planning, and budget planning. Although I’m employed at college in New Jersey for a long time, I was never involved in these areas. Of course, they were interesting but attempting to figure out the processes and systems these areas are accountable to, I found myself going around in a circle. Maybe, I’m not a numbers person. However, I spent a great time understanding the terminology and processes and took a longer time than the other areas which I also liked and was acquainted with my job responsibilities. I must say this course was challenging, in some way I understood and some areas I was a bit lost. However, I’m glad I took the course. I kind-a look forward in the near future to get involved, if the opportunity exists, to delve into it for the practice and learn more. So, in essence, I look forward to put into practice what I learned in this class. I thank the instructor and all the students for giving me a better look in this field.

As for doing anything different in the assignment, I think I would do the same thing, especially the areas that challenged me. I learned a number of lessons about the overall course, for example sometimes interesting courses such as this one can shake you up but ultimately, teaches one something appreciable.
In regards to the other students’ responses, I felt I was not the only one shaking a bit, trying to put the readings and practice in perspective. As for budgetary decisions, I never thought it was so complex with so many intricacies that if I wasn’t careful, I would have misunderstood many of the angles in the budget field. I think that some practical experience in this area can shed more light and perhaps be able to understand the different perspectives involved in decision making.
