PERSONAL BIOGRAPHY

Azize Cornejo, a native of Ecuador, is a mother of a six-year-old boy and a seven-and-a-half year old Shit-Tsu. She is also a daughter, sister, and aunt of two teenage nieces. She has been working for Bergen Community College for the past 18-years. The college has provided her with the opportunity to serve a wide and diverse student population at different positions and in distinctive capacities. Through her career, she had the pleasure to work in the Bursars Office, Accounting Department, collaborated with Bergen Stages for performances within the Theatre Department, assisted with registration, academic advising for remedial and Honors courses, as well as helped facilitate ideas and tools for programs development.
Currently, she serves the English Department as an Assistant to the Chair. She helps provide leadership, service learning opportunities, orientation, and guidance to students while assisting a separate student cohort as a Success Ambassador Coach. In this capacity, she is able to provide consistent support to second and third term continuing enrolled students to help with student retention and completion. One of her key responsibilities is to help students stay focused on their college education, stimulate interest in continuing academic excellence, and committed to them to complete their degrees.

Academic Accomplishments
​
Among her academic accomplishments, Azize holds a B.S. in Alternative Medicine from Everglades University, where she graduated with High Honors and a 4.0-grade point average. This was followed by her A.S. in Professional Studies degree earned with dual Honors and a 4.0-grade point average with special recognition awards for Academic Excellence and Outstanding Services from the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at Bergen Community College. She is currently pursuing her Master's in Higher Education at Penn State University.

Additional Training
​
She enriches her professional development through Fred Pryor seminars and trainings taken on a monthly basis to stay current with technology and on a wide variety of topics ranging from personnel management, office skills, communication skills and strategies, HR rules and regulations, etc. to highly perform within the academic office environment. She also is an active advocate for natural wellness. Her passion for using and finding alternative and natural ways to restore and maintain overall well-being has driven her to acquire other knowledge and training. She is a Certified Integral Yoga Instructor, Advanced Certified Acupressure Practitioner, Licensed Massage Therapist, Certified Thai Yoga practitioner, Certified Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) Therapist, Certified Hypnosis Therapist, and Reflexologist and Reiki Master/Practitioner. She is currently undergoing training for Sound Therapy certification.

Community Engagement

In addition to being a full-time working single mother, she is also an active volunteer within her community where she participates at different nonprofit organizations such as the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), American Cancer Association, Relay for Life events, Hackensack UMC Children’s Hospital and Integral Yoga Institute.

Personal Interests & Activities
​
Her personal interests are dancing within diverse styles such as ballet, flamenco, jazz, and modern dance. In addition, she enjoys biking, running, planning events, attend seminars for personal development, and relax watching a good movie.
